Ongoing :: Supporting Children and Adolescents During COVID-19

Friday, November 13, 2020 @ 12:00 pm

The Supporting Children and Adolescents during COVID-19 module is only available to California Library staff via CALL Academy.

Children and adolescents may worry about themselves, their families, and their friends getting ill with COVID-19. Parents, family members, school staff, and other trusted adults can play an important role in helping children and adolescents make sense of what they hear in a way that is honest, accurate, and minimizes anxiety or fear. The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) joined the CDC EPIC Team on Wednesday, July 22. Dr. Melissa Brymer, Director of the Terrorism and Disaster Program UCLA/Duke University National Center for Child Traumatic Stress discussed possible ways to support young people during COVID-19. She also described NCTSN’s available resources and outline how to have conversations with children and adolescents about what is happening.
