Reimagining School Readiness

Thursday, May 19 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

This workshop is now full.

Do you wonder what research really says about how to support school readiness? How can you help families prepare young children for starting school?

The Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit is a suite of research-backed resources created for library staff to help families prepare children ages 0 to 8 for success in school and in life. Through an online, interactive session with hands-on activities, this training will introduce library staff to the research, practical implications, and resources offered in the toolkit, which is available in its entirety for free online.

This workshop will include:

  • key findings from current cognitive and developmental psychology research,
  • the implications of those findings for library staff’s daily work,
  • practical, ready-to-implement ideas for activities, and
  • resources for staff training and for parents/caregivers.

This workshop will be of interest to all California public library staff who work with children ages 0-8 and their families/caregivers.

The 4-hour live, online workshop will be offered twice:

Thursday, May 19, 2022

10am – 2pm (includes breaks)

Tuesday, May 24, 2022

10am – 2pm (includes breaks)

Workshop materials sent to participants will include a copy of the booklet Promising Practices: A Guide for Library Staff, several samples of the Reimagining School Readiness Toolkit resources, and components for hands-on activities.

Attendance for each workshop is limited to 40 participants. Please register for one of the dates at the registration link above. Registration closes on Friday, April 29, 2022.
