The Responsible Use of Scholarly Metrics

Wednesday, May 4 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Register for this one-hour webinar.

Scholarly metrics are a useful tool for both promotions as well as self-evaluation. Unfortunately, scholarly metrics are sometimes misused in evaluating researchers’ scholarly output which has led some observers to question their value.

In this webinar, Marc Vinyard and Jaimie Beth Colvin will describe the different categories of metrics and how to responsibly use them. Scholarly metrics should account for a researcher’s academic discipline, level of experience and preferred research outputs. Additionally, it’s important that researchers are not defined by a single number, such as the Journal Impact Factor. Librarians should use scholarly metrics to help faculty succeed rather than create a burden.

If you’re interested but not able to attend the live webinar, go ahead and register. A recording will be sent to all registrants after the fact.
