CALL selects trainings based on identified needs in the California library workforce, emerging issues affecting California libraries, alignment with CALL strategic priorities, presenter expertise, and the goal of representing a wide range of perspectives and library contexts.
Training topics are guided by:
- Regular statewide learning needs assessments
- Participant feedback and evaluation surveys
- Program participation and demand
- Ongoing engagement with the California library community
- Projects and priorities of the California State Library
- Collaboration with trusted partners and professional learning providers
CALL offers a mix of live, synchronous learning opportunities and self-paced content in order to support different learning preferences, work environments, schedules, and access needs. Whenever possible, CALL prioritizes trainings that:
- Are grounded in demonstrated expertise and evidence-informed practice
- Provide clear, actionable learning outcomes for library workers
- Address current and emerging needs in the library field
- Support a wide range of library types, roles, and communities
- Reflect expertise from library practitioners, subject matter experts, and trusted training partners
