Improving Searchability and Transparency

Earlier this year, CALL conducted a Needs Assessment survey to learn more about the professional development needs and priorities of library workers across California. Based on your feedback, we’ve created two new resources designed to make it easier to find relevant training opportunities and better understand how training topics are selected.

Calendar Track Terms are a new set of topic labels used in CALL’s event calendar. They make it easier to search and discover trainings that match your interests and professional development goals.

We have also enabled a new filter on the event calendar for ‘Host.’ By using this filter you can narrow down calendar events to see the following types of events:

  • CALL Exclusive (these are special events that CALL has sought out specifically to meet emergent needs or training needs identified in the Needs Assessment)
  • CALL Produced/Homegrown (these are events that were submitted through CALL’s ongoing CALL for Presentations
  • CALL Sponsored (these are events put on by various vendors such as ALA, Library Journal, etc. and CALL has used grant funds to purchase seats for library workers)
  • California State Library (these events are hosted by California State Library)
  • Referral (these are completely free events being offered by other agencies but CALL has identified the training as something that may be relevant to library workers)

We’ve also developed a Training Selection Policy, which explains the process and criteria CALL uses when choosing training opportunities. This helps provide greater transparency about how decisions are made and ensures our offerings continue to reflect the needs of California library workers.

These resources were created in direct response to member feedback, and we’re excited to make them available. We hope they help you find the training you need and better understand how CALL plans its professional development offerings.
